Keeling hired as Belpre Elementary School principal

The Belpre Board of Education has hired Lauren Keeling as the new principal of Belpre Elementary School.

BELPRE — The Belpre Board of Education has hired Lauren Keeling as the new principal of Belpre Elementary School.

The board unanimously approved the appointment Monday evening. The three-year contract begins Aug. 1, but Keeling will start as principal at the school today.

“I am so excited for this opportunity,” Keeling said. “I love Belpre and I love this school.”

“I have never felt more strongly about an appointment,” Superintendent Jeff Greenley said prior to the vote. “She has my full confidence and support.”

Keeling has worked as a teacher at Belpre City Schools since 2015 and has a master’s degree in elementary education. She received the 2018 CORAS (Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Superintendents) Outstanding Teacher Award.

Keeling succeeds Principal Joy Edgell, who was at Belpre Elementary for seven years. Edgell’s resignation was approved Monday, and she leaves to take a position as director of preschool programs for the Ohio Valley Educational Services Center.

“Mrs. Edgell provided seven years of exceptional service, and we wish her the best,” Greenley said.
