Mamie Dawson celebrates 100th

Mamie Dawson of Parkersburg recently celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at a party hosted by her family. Mamie was born June 26, 1926, in Spencer and spent her early years in Roane and Calhoun Counties. During World War II she contributed to the war effort as a "Rosie Riveter" while employed at Curtis Wright Defense Plant at Columbus. She married John Dawson in 1947 and they made their home in Calhoun County where they raised their family. They moved to Wood County in 1979. She was born at Marietta Memorial Hospital at 9:38 a.m., weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Randy and Teresa Wallace of Little Hocking and Chris and Tina Arnold of Marietta. Great-grandmother is Marylou Ullman of Marietta.
