MC’s Sweeney named All-Region

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Marietta College had another standout athlete named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-Region team, announced Friday afternoon. After a breakout season, sophomore Katie Sweeney earned a spot as she was placed on the third team.

“This is a really big achievement for Katie,” Marietta head coach Jenn Castle said. “She really did an amazing job for us this season. Katie is such a talented kid and has even more to learn to better her game and contribute to her team. The future is bright for Katie and I am grateful to be her coach to see all the progress she has made and will continue to make.”

Sweeney was a key factor in the Pioneer lineup, securing the starting catcher position at the beginning of the year. This transition allowed fellow All-OAC first-team selection Liz White to move to first base, providing Coach Castle with additional offensive consistency.

Sweeney made a significant impact at the plate, tied for second on the team with four home runs and ranking third in the OAC with 16 doubles. Her defensive contributions were equally vital, as she ranked second in the conference by throwing out eight runners attempting to steal.

Marietta finished the season with a 21-19 overall record and 6-10 Ohio Athletic Conference record.

NFCA All-Region and All-American athletes must be nominated by their NFCA member head coach, are voted for by the coaches in their region or division and ultimately are selected by elected All-American committee members to receive this prestigious accolade.

Starting at $2.99/week.
