PARKERSBURG – The AFL-CIO Appalachian Council Head Start Program in Wood County is taking applications for students at its Wood County sites, including a new, state-of-the-art building in Cedar Grove. According to a release from the program, Head Start provides transportation, healthy meals and snacks, health screenings, developmentally appropriate educational experiences, family engagement, parent activities and support services to families of qualifying 3- to 5-year-old children at no cost to the family. PARKERSBURG – Coplin Health Systems is receiving a nearly $116,000 grant to help expand dental care capacity and access in the region. The organization announced Friday that it had been awarded a $115,796.42 grant from the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health to support the Wirt County Oral Health Access Initiative.
