PARKERSBURG – A Parkersburg man was killed in a early Tuesday afternoon accident on the Juliana Street Bridge which rerouted traffic for a few hours.

Hunter Lee Walker, 23, of Parkersburg, died as a result of the accident which occurred shortly after 12 p.m. Tuesday, according to a post from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department on their Facebook page.

Officials said on Tuesday at 12:12 p.m. a 911 call had come in of a single vehicle crash that occurred on the entrance ramp to the westbound lanes of US 50 from the Juliana Street Bridge, according to sheriff’s department post on Facebook.

“Deputies of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office arrived in the area discovering a 1996 Ford Ranger resting on its top on the hillside located off of the right-hand side of the roadway of the entrance ramp,” the release said.

Officials determined the vehicle was attempting to negotiate the curve of the entrance ramp. The vehicle scraped against the guardrail, separated from the guardrail, over corrected when re-entering the west bound lanes of travel, and again collided into the guardrail, the release said.

“The second collision with the guardrail caused the vehicle to go airborne, flipping over the guardrail,” the release said. “The vehicle then collided with the ground and came to a rest on its top.

“…the driver was ejected from the vehicle and was thrown further down the hill. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene.”

Also responding to the scene were members of the Parkersburg Police Department, Parkersburg Fire Department, Camden Clark Ambulance Service, West Virginia Department of Highways, The Wood County Coroner’s Office, and Pifer’s Towing and Recovery.

Emergency officials closed the on ramp to the bridge at the intersection of Ann and Third streets and rerouted traffic. The bridge remained closed for a few hours as emergency responders dealt with the accident.

After being shut down for a few hours, traffic resumed on the roadway by 3:45 p.m., according to Wood County Sheriff Rick Woodyard.
