West Virginia Mountain Party nominates Lutz for governor
CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Mountain Party has nominated a candidate for governor.
Daniel P. “Danny” Lutz was nominated on Saturday during the party’s biennial State Convention conducted by Zoom video conferencing.
Lutz was re-elected in the June 9 primary election as the Conservation District Supervisor in Jefferson County, an office he has held since 2016. He is one of two elected supervisors who are members of the Mountain Party.
He is a retired U.S. Air Force major and a graduate of West Virginia University and the American University. Lutz ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2nd District in 2018 and for the House of Delegates in 2014.
Lutz will be on the ballot with Republican Jim Justice and Democrat Ben Salango. Four political parties are recognized in West Virginia, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian and Mountain.
Among business items addressed by the party included the election of officers and amendments to the bylaws. The convention was originally planned to be held in Braxton County.
Other nominations made Saturday were Gregory Lance for sheriff of Jefferson County; Donald Kimmie for the state Senate in the 15th District; Robert E. Smith for the House of Delegates 59th District; and Mary Kinnie for the House of Delegates 60th District.
