PARKERSBURG — One person died during an apartment fire at the Dutch Hills Terrace Apartments on Dutch Ridge Road Wednesday, according to East Wood Fire Chief Ron Utt.
The name of the deceased person was not released Wednesday.
Emergency crews responded to the scene of a fire on Dutch Ridge Road in Wood County around 4:50 p.m.
“We are still investigating the cause,” said Utt.
Utt said the fire, which took about 30 minutes to extinguish, was contained to the bottom floor, but that the building’s utilities had to be shut off.
“The American Red Cross is assisting residents who were displaced due to the shut off of utilities,” said Utt.
Surrounding apartments did not receive much smoke damage and residents were expected to return to their homes soon, Utt said.
Wood County Fire Investigation Team and the state Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire.
East Wood Volunteer Fire Department, Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department and Deerwalk Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire call. St. Joseph’s Ambulance Service and Wood County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
