Wood County man sentenced to prison on federal gun charge

CHARLESTON — A Wood County man was sentenced to prison for a federal gun charge, the United States attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia said.

Robert Adams, 34, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition, U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart said. Adams is incarcerated in a state prison serving a sentence of 3-15 years and will begin serving the federal sentence after completing the state sentence.

Adams admitted that on July 23, 2017, he knowingly possessed a Remington-Peters 4-10 shotgun cartridge. He was prohibited from possessing the ammunition because of a 2008 conviction of the felony of burglary from Wood County Circuit Court.

“We are working with a sense of urgency to prevent and reduce gun crime throughout the district,” Stuart said. “Partnerships with federal, state and local law enforcement to insure violators of federal gun laws are held accountable are critical to our success. Those partnerships are strong.”

The Parkesburg Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation. Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber imposed the sentence.

Assistant United States Attorney Steven I. Loew handled the prosecution.
