VOLCANO – Registration is open for the Friends of Mountwood Park Adventure Camp 2026, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 20-24.

The camp’s 20 spots are open to children who turned 9 by Dec. 31, 2025, and will not turn 14 before July 31. Camp will be held rain or shine. Cost is $50 for the week.

Adventure Day Camp gives participants a new outdoor experience each day, including hiking, exploring the creek, fishing at Mountwood Lake and archery.

One of the planned activities for camp includes making a bird feeder with the guidance of Bob Zellny and wood cut at Curtis Woodworking in Pennsboro. Tyler County Search and Rescue will hold demonstrations showing the skills dogs possess to find lost humans. The Appalachian Herpetological Society will discuss reptiles and amphibians, as well as leading searches to find them. The Mountain State Sportsmen’s Association will lead campers in archery exercises.

Each camper will be given the book “Nature’s Best Hope” Young Readers’ Edition by New York Times best-selling author Douglas W. Tallamy. They will also study conservation and respect for natural resources.
