Wood County sees decrease in active COVID cases

CHARLESTON — No COVID-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, which listed 1,085 active cases around the state. Wood County reported a deceased number of COVID cases, a few stayed the same and a couple of counties increased the number of positive cases. The following case numbers were reported by the DHHR: Wood (51), Wirt (1), Tyler (4), Wetzel (9), Roane (7), Ritchie (9), Pleasants (3), Jackson (17), Doddridge (4) and Calhoun (1). No new COVID-19 deaths reported since Thursday

From Staff Reports CHARLESTON — No additional COVID-19 deaths were reported since Thursday’s update, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, but there are 1,078 active cases statewide. Seventeen of the 55 counties are in the yellow with other 38 counties remaining in the green category on the County Alert map. Pleasants, Roane counties high on CDC COVID measure

PARKERSBURG — The CDC is recommending masks be worn in indoor, public spaces in Pleasants and Roane counties due to recent COVID-19 statistics. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issues its COVID Community Levels measure for counties each Thursday afternoon, based on the number of new COVID cases per 100,000 people and hospitalization statistics in the preceding seven days. Wood County moves to yellow on West Virginia COVID map

CHARLESTON — Wood County was downgraded Thursday on the County Alert System Map, going from the lowest level of green to second lowest of yellow, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The alert system is based on the lower of the measurements for infection rate and percent positivity. West Virginia sees active COVID-19 cases fluctuate; no new death reported

CHARLESTON — Statewide active cases continued fluctuating Wednesday, rising to 1,224 across West Virginia, the Department of Health and Human Resources said. Another 511 new cases have been received since the last pandemic update on Tuesday, the department said. No deaths were reported in the 24-hour period between the Tuesday and Wednesday reports. COVID hospitalizations jump 10 percent in 24 hours

Staff Report CHARLESTON — Hospitalizations from the COVID-19 coronavirus increased 10 percent in the 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday mornings, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources said. The department reported 225 hospitalizations on Tuesday, up from 203 on Monday, with 30 patients in an intensive care unit and 13 on a ventilator. A dozen pediatric cases, three more than Monday, also were reported with one in an ICU and two on a ventilator.
