CHARLESTON -- Statewide active cases continued fluctuating Wednesday, rising to 1,224 across West Virginia, the Department of Health and Human Resources said.
Another 511 new cases have been received since the last pandemic update on Tuesday, the department said.
No deaths were reported in the 24-hour period between the Tuesday and Wednesday reports. The death count remains at 7,661 people since the pandemic began.
Twenty-three counties are yellow on the County Alert System map based on infection rate and percent positivity. Levels are ranked by severity: green, yellow, gold, orange and red levels with green as the lowest.
Locally, Pleasants, Tyler, Roane, Calhoun and Gilmer counties are yellow. All other counties in the region are green.
Current active cases in local counties are (previous report): Calhoun 3 (1); Doddridge 1 (1); Gilmer 2 (1); Jackson 12 (10); Pleasants 4 (8); Ritchie 4 (8); Roane 27 (23); Tyler 5 (8); Wetzel 8 (5); Wirt 1 (0); Wood 56 (45).
Statewide hospitalizations rose another 10 to 235 between Tuesday and Wednesday. Thirty-two patients are in an intensive care unit and nine are on a ventilator.
Nine pediatric cases with one in an ICU and one on a ventilator were reported.
