MARIETTA — Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters will perform 7 p.m. Wednesday in a sold-out show at Peoples Bank Theatre in Marietta in the Marietta College Esbenshade Series.
The Boxmasters is fronted by Bill Bob Thornton, the actor whose credits include “Bad Santa,” “Armageddon” and “Sling Blade.”
Formed in 2006, The Boxmasters have created a wide-ranging catalog of music, drawing inspiration from classic rock and Americana influences such as The Beatles, The Byrds, The Allman Brothers and Kris Kristofferson.
The band released its 19th studio album in July, “Pepper Tree Hill,” that was inspired by its recording studio, Pepper Tree Hill Studios. Following its release, the band launched a nationwide tour.
The Boxmasters also has performed in Canada and Europe and has opened for ZZ Top, Steve Miller and George Thorogood, among others.
“Billy Bob Thornton is, to me, a modern-day Renaissance man,” Todd Burge, director of the Esbenshade Series, said. “His creativity and charisma know no boundaries, and his work, from acclaimed films to original music with The Boxmasters, is always compelling.”
The Esbenshade Series is through the Frederica G. Esbenshade Memorial Fund, established in 1980 by Harry H. Esbenshade Sr. and Harry H. Esbenshade Jr., husband and son, respectively, of the late Mrs. Esbenshade of Uniontown, Pa. All events are free and open to the public.
