SPENCER — A rising country singer will perform for the Spencer community next week to kickoff the Fourth of July weekend.
Lainey Wilson came from a small farming community and has earned her way to Nashville with music that’s described as “Bell Bottom Country, which blends traditional Country with a modern yet retro flair,” a press release said.
Wilson will hit the stage July 1 in downtown Spencer. Mayor Terry Williams said he is looking forward to seeing people have fun and enjoy each other’s company.
“We’re excited about it, she’s an artist to watch in the country music industry. I know she’s performed at many sellout crowds across the United States,” Williams said.
Over the past five years, concerts have been held in downtown Spencer and Williams said live performances are starting to come back in the community. Another big concert is also in the works to take place before the Black Walnut Festival in October.

“We are slowly getting the pieces put together and trying to get back to some normalcy so people can get out and visit with each other and have a good time,” Williams said.
Local downtown restaurants will serve food at the event and the Roane County High School band members will have food for sale as well.
“I think it’s just a great evening for fun and family and food,” he said.
To celebrate the Fourth of July, Spencer will put on a fireworks show at 9:30 pm. on the hill behind Walmart and the city pool will offer free admission.
“We want people to come to that, people love coming out to the fireworks. It’s good when I hear that people and families are going to be getting together, having a cookout and visiting each other,” Williams said. “It’s good for friends and family to be able to get back to some kind of normal, I can only hope it gets better.”
People are asked to bring lawn chairs and chair setup starts at 4 p.m. July 1 for the Wilson concert.
