PARKERSBURG — Zak Morgan, a songwriter/musician and Grammy Award nominee, will perform for the Artsbridge Artists-on-Tour in area elementary schools Sept. 30-Oct. 3.
Morgan will perform for fifth- and sixth-graders in Wood, Pleasants, Jackson and Washington counties.
“Zak’s Science of Sound” generates excitement about science and encourages students to think about how science is used in daily life, according to a press release. Morgan sings original songs that are interactive and full of his trademark wit and wordplay. During the assembly, he points out all of the ways he uses science in his show, and students will learn about sound waves, electricity and magnetism.
Students will watch Morgan change the pitch of a sound wave by simply bending his musical (toothless) saw, and other ways that he uses technology to bring his ideas to life on stage. As in all Morgan’s shows, students will be encouraged to be kind, curious, and confident in this introduction to the science of sound.
Morgan has performed more than 2,500 concerts for children across the country. After earning a B.A. in English from Kenyon College, Morgan was director of rights acquisitions for Recorded Books Inc. and was immersed in children’s literature.
“Bloom,” his first CD, was met with awards and “Best of” listings. In 2003 Morgan released the Grammy-nominated CD “When Bullfrogs Croak.” In 2007 he released the DVD, “ZakLand” with Hollywood director Jay Silverman. In 2011, he released “The Candy Machine,” an album about the golden rule. In February 2012, Morgan signed with myKaZoo Music/Universal Music Enterprises and released “The Barber of the Beasts.” In 2014 he released a collection of traditional pre-1900 Christmas songs.
Study guides are provided for teachers through Artsbridge prior to the show.
