Hoops roundup: Holbert leads Titans past Knights

KIDWELL — Kolten Holbert was a hard puzzle to solve for Tyler Consolidated as the Gilmer County Titan scored a game-high 27 points in a 73-63 win, Friday night in a Little Kanawha Conference placement game.

Gilmer County built a 41-31 lead by halftime as Tyler Ratliff scored 10 of his 16 points by intermission. Tyler Consolidated managed to shave three points off the deficit and close to within 55-48 despite Holbert’s two 3-pointers in the third period.

Holbert secured the win by knocking down 5-of-6 free throws in the final period. Also scoring in double figures for the Titans was Remi Huffman with 12 points.

Wirt County 71, Webster County 58

ELIZABETH — Wirt County came alive in the second half, outscoring Webster County 44-29 over the final two quarters to rally for a 71-58 win Friday.

The Tigers (14-5) trailed 18-13 after one and 29-27 at halftime, but took a 46-44 advantage into the final eight minutes.

Braylan Dawson and Easton Wyer scored 22 points apiece to tie for game-high honors. Jake Moore added 10 and Alex Bevel chipped in nine for WCHS, which plays host to Richwood on Monday.

Webster (10-10) got 19 points from Justin Lewis, 13 from Kasey Farmer and 11 from Ryder Wright.

Magnolia 59, Notre Dame 51

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Kingston Christen’s game-high 30 points helped lift Magnolia to a 59-51 win over Notre Dame Friday.

Christen knocked down five 3-pointers and was 7 for 7 at the free-throw line for the Blue Eagles (8-11), who play host to Trinity Christian on Monday.

Magnolia, which trailed 14-9 after one but rallied for a 31-26 halftime advantage, also got nine points from Brayden Byers. Jessup Higgins chipped in seven points for the Blue Eagles, who led 49-43 going into the fourth.

Notre Dame (3-15) got 17 points from D.D. Minnocci, 11 from Isaiah Garmek and 10 from Brayden Helmick.

GIRLS

St. Marys 75, Tyler Consolidated 26

ST. MARYS — St. Marys’ Brynnley Bulluck recorded a triple-double as the Blue Devils defeated Tyler Consolidated 75-26 on Friday night.

Bulluck made three 3-pointers as part of her game-high 33 points. She also finished with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Teammate Anna Bennett contributed 14 points to go with eight rebounds and four steals. Also for St. Marys (17-4), Laney Watkins scored 14 points and dished out eight assists.
