PARKERSBURG — Blane Maddox, Julian Stadelman and Connor Barry won a lot of basketball games together the last three years.

Stadelman and Barry have played their final games for Warren Warriors, but will get the chance to suit up one final time for their head coach as Maddox has been selected to lead the Ohio team for tonight’s Battle Against Cystic Fibrosis All-Star Classic.

Over the last three seasons, Maddox guided the Warriors to a 62-14 record, including an Elite Eight run two seasons ago. Stadelman and Barry were three-year starters on those teams and were instrumental in the program’s success.

“What a great opportunity,” Maddox said. “I love them both. They’re great kids and I’m glad to see them get an opportunity to play a couple extra ball games. I’m looking forward to them playing well.”

Stadelman, Warren’s all-time leading scorer, established himself as one of the top point guards in the state during his career. He’s a dynamic player who can score in bunches and also set his teammates up for success.

Barry is a lethal shooter from deep. If he gets a hot hand, the Ohio squad will be in business. The Buckeye State will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid to West Virginia.

Maddox is no stranger to the BACF.

“I’ve coached in it two or three times and it’s always an honor,” he said. “I like the concept. I’ll never turn it down if they invite me. I’m excited to coach the Ohio team.

“We’re going to try to win and have fun. Hopefully we’ll have the chemistry to be able to play well on both ends of the floor. We’d like to make it exciting for the fans.”

Along with Stadelman and Barry, the Ohio team will consist of Marietta’s Junior Bass and Brayden Jones, Frontier’s True King, Monroe Central’s Chance Allen and Logan Powell, Shenandoah’s Carsten Smith, Fairland’s Brody Buchanan, Nelsonville-York’s Briant Call, Alexander’s Mason Morris and Gallia Academy’s Cade Mock.

Allen and Powell are coming off a state championship run in Division VI for the Seminoles.

“It looks like a good mixture of size and some good guard play,” Maddox said. “I’m pretty familiar with a lot of them. The Buchanan kid, we’ve competed against him. Him and Julian are two of the best guards with the ball. We might try to play one of them off the ball. After Wednesday’s practice we’ll get to see their strengths a little more and try to balance them to make two equal teams. We’ll see who we go with when it comes down to the fourth quarter.”

Maddox has compiled a 445-167 record in his coaching career. He guided the Warriors to the Final Four in 2013.

“A long time ago I coached in an all-star game with Dusty Ford,” Maddox recalled. “It was a defensive battle, and I told him ‘We’ve got to put some points on the board.’ The offense I’m looking at this year, we should put some points up. It’s always neat to see the crowd go back and forth. It’s Ohio vs. West Virginia. I’m sure the West Virginia team is loaded. They have a lot of great players over there. Hopefully our guys come in with a great attitude and all play hard.

“I hope the community comes out. This will be one you want to be there live to watch, both the boys and girls game. Enjoy and have a good time watching the best players around here one last time.”
