Patrick Copen selected by Dodgers in 7th round of MLB Draft

PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg Catholic graduate Patrick Copen was selected in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday.
The Dodgers made Copen, who pitched the last three seasons at Marshall University, the 220th overall pick, making him the Thundering Herd’s highest draft pick since 2016.
Copen pitched 136 innings over his sophomore and junior seasons, striking out 148 batters. He finished fifth in Sun Belt Conference with 83 punchouts his junior year.
Listed at 6-foot-6, Copen is the first player from Marshall the Dodgers have ever drafted.
