Warren’s Starcher state runner-up in high jump
COLUMBUS — Warren senior Sydney Starcher cleared 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump to earn state runner-up honors Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Starcher finished behind only Morgan Johnson of Woodward, who won the state title at 5-7. While it’s Starcher’s third time earning All-Ohio status in the event, this was her best individual placement in the outdoor meet. She was also runner-up at the indoor state meet this season.
Starcher’s teammate Abby Whited competed in the 300 hurdles prelims, finishing 12th at 46.42 seconds.
Warren’s 4×2 relay team of Emma Parker, Raniah Singh, Whited and Juliana Huffman clocked in at 1:46.44 to finish 17th.
From Morgan, Braylon Miller advanced to the finals in the 400. Miller crossed the finish line in 49.49 seconds to finish fifth. He’ll look to reach the podium for the first time in his career on Saturday.
Federal Hocking’s Annamarie Montle will take home a state title to Stewart. The Lancer cleared 13 feet in the pole vault to place first.
Montle was also the state runner-up in the 100 hurdles. She finished with a time of 15.06, trailing only Molly Brame of Minster (14.96).
A pair of local throwers earned All-Ohio honors in the discus. Caldwell’s Camy Crock placed seventh (127-11) while Eastern’s Brooke Barkey followed in eighth (125-6).
After securing all-state status in the high jump on Thursday, Shenandoah’s Braxton Barnett added three more medals to his collection on Friday.
Barnett finished runner-up in the 110 and 300 hurdles and was third in the long jump (21-9.25). It’s the third straight year the Zep was All-Ohio in four events.
In the 110 hurdles, Barnett and Coldwater’s Aidan Rose both clocked in at 14.28, but Rose was credited with the win (14.272 to 14.275). Rose also bested Barnett in the 300 (37.30 to 37.61)
Representing Fort Frye, senior Reiley Miller finished at 33-6.25 in the shot put to come in 17th.
