Letter to the Editor: Human nature is sin

I have not written a letter for a while as life just sometimes gets busy. We all suffer from that malady, too much to do in so little time. What I really like to write about is the number one problem we have as people. It is not a money problem, a weight problem, or anything else we can think of. It is a sin problem.
We all sin. Sin is defined as anything we say, do, or think that is not pleasing to a Holy God. Think about that. It is the thinking part that should be the most frightening to us. Our minds are deceitful and wicked. We can think bad thoughts without any effort. There is a local man who writes sermons of the week sometimes in which he states that once we are saved, we sin no more. How nice that would be, but it is a lie of Satan. We still sin, perhaps less than before, but we are still indwelt by a sin nature. We naturally sin rather than do good. Those with young children, think of this. Do you have to teach your little one to be good, or bad. I think you know the answer. They have got the bad all figured out.
Now doing good will not save us. But, in a spirit of thankfulness when we are saved, we should want to do good things. Not for the purpose of salvation, but as a sort of demonstration of what God has done for us. Are you actively trying to do good today? Do you do good things without any recognition for it?
Dolly Parton is featured on some billboards saying “look for the good in everyone.” I know what she means, but there is no good in anyone. The Bible says, there are none righteous, no not one. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:10 KJV. That means that the “best” person you can think of, whether you know them or just heard of them, they are not righteous. What is righteousness? Merriam-Webster online dictionary says, “acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin.” While sometimes we may act righteously, do we do it all the time? Are you faithful in living righteously? Faithfulness is an absolute. If you are not 100% faithful, then you are unfaithful.
