Richard Paul Kellison Sr.

Kellison
Richard Paul “Heavy” Kellison Sr., 84, of Washington, WV, passed away September 27, 2025. Paul was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of New Life Baptist Church. He went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born February 3, 1941, in Parkersburg, WV, and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1959 before entering the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country. After his service, Paul worked 40 years at O-Ames and later drove for Wood County Schools Transportation for 10 years, where he enjoyed being a part of so many children’s daily lives.
In 1959, Paul married the love of his life, Thelma Ayers Kellison. Together they raised three children: Debra (Joe) Jones of Washington, WV; the late Rick Kellison; and Patty (Scott) Stewart of Parkersburg, WV. They were blessed with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought Paul much joy.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Kellison, and by his in-laws, Paul and Freda Ayers.
Paul was known not only as a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, but also as a man of many talents. He loved working on cars, woodworking, and glassmaking. He could be found roller skating and even dancing on skates, playing roller hockey, or out on the golf course. On the riverbank, he was famous for teaching kids how to water ski, sharing his love for the outdoors with generations. His hands were always busy, but his heart was always with his family.
Service will be 11:00 AM Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Reverend Larry Dale officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the House Calls Hospice staff for their wonderful care, with special gratitude to Dr. Hornsby and nurse Morgan Rogers. They also wish to thank Dr. Jason Barton, Paul’s family physician, and his staff for the many years of excellent care they provided. A special thank-you is also extended to Barbie Beikirich, Paul and Thelma’s caregiver, for her faithful and loving care.
