Richard E. Russell

Richard E. Russell, 69, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at WVU Medicine Camden Clark. He was born in Parkersburg a son of the late Robert H. and Theresa “Eileen” (Moore) Russell.

Rick was best known for his outstanding baseball career at Parkersburg High School, where his talent and dedication left a lasting impression. A proud member of the Class of 1974, he later earned the distinguished honor of being inducted into the Mid-Ohio Valley Softball Hall of Fame-not only as a player but also as an umpire, a testament to his lifelong passion for the game.

Beyond the diamond, Rick was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He played in the Worthington Golf League, was a proud member of the Blennerhassett Bass Masters, and was an unwavering supporter of WVU football, basketball, and especially baseball. His hobbies reflected his love of life: painting, golfing, fishing, hunting, and above all, helping others.

Rick found great joy in spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Izzy, and took pride in sharing his artwork with friends and their children. After retiring from Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration in 2017, he became an even more familiar and friendly presence in his Stone Creek neighborhood, always willing to lend a hand and brighten someone’s day.

He married Connie Offutt Russell on Oct. 30, 1982, and they shared 43 wonderful years together. Connie was the love of his life. Over the past three years, he lovingly cared for her through her illness, keeping her by his side at home for as long as he could. In addition to Connie, he is survived by his son, Derick (Megan) Russell; his cherished granddaughter, Izabella Russell; and his sister, Debbie Glasser of Florida.

Services will be Wednesday 2 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor Jamie Sprague officiating. Burial will be at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday 12-2 p.m.
