Thomas Eugene Duncan
Thomas Eugene Duncan (Gene), 89, of Washington, WV, peacefully passed at home, February 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born in Mason County, WV, January 28, 1936, to Stanley and Thelma Duncan. He was married for 68 years to Eleanor “Emogene” Duncan, who survives him, as well as his children Terry (Vicki) Duncan of Washington, WV, Sharon Ramsey, Little Hocking, OH, and Mark (Renae) Duncan, Little Hocking, OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren Eric Duncan, Kelsey Nicholas, Barb Laugh, Troy Duncan, Tiffani Garvin, Drew Ramsey, Jeremy Ramsey, and special nieces and nephew, Janet VanKirk, Patty Johnson, and Jim Duncan, as well as several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Duncan and Cecil Duncan, and his son-in-law Terry Ramsey.
Gene worked at DuPont, Washington Works, until his retirement in 1994. Gene returned to school to become an electrician, during his employment at DuPont. He enjoyed 31 years of retirement. He was the ultimate fixer, he could fix anything, and often used his skills to help others. Gene was also a skilled gunsmith.
Our dad will always be remembered by his giving nature. He was a loving husband to Emogene, who he called Boo. Gene was a man of faith and loved God. You could not visit Gene without him insisting on you eating with him, and always trying to give you a little money. He adored his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved his pets, and grand pets. He always sat with his dog under his arm, fiddling with his guns, watching westerns, and giving good advice. Dad was a storyteller, he had this way of bringing his childhood escapades in Hartford WV back to life. Dad could tell a good joke. He loved a good apple pie and ice cream, and steak. He loved to work outdoors, he gardened, and loved taking care of his lawn. He loved and cared for us with every breath he took. He was tough, sensitive, caring, and grumpy at times. Even during his time of passing he was trying to take care of us. He will be dearly missed by so many. We thank God for him, and his lifelong guidance and love.
There will be no public service. The family will gather for a life celebration at a later date. We want to give our heartfelt thanks to the Vienna Amedisys Hospice, especially Jennifer, Morgan, Taylor, Connie, and Travis.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Rest easy Gene, until we meet again.
