Cleanup continues from recent storms

PARKERSBURG – Cleanup and support efforts continued Friday around the state of West Virginia from storms that included tornadoes. Storms on Tuesday brought rain that caused flooding and damages from tornadoes in Pleasants and other counties north and east of Wood County. Officials from Wood County are part of efforts to help those impacted in Upshur County around the Buckhannon area. Applications for property purchases that were tabled by the Urban Renewal Authority of Parkersburg are on the agenda for Tuesday. The authority will meet following the City Council meeting, which convenes at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers at the municipal building. The tabled motions include separate applications from Steven M. Spiker and Jeremy Lemasters to purchase 813 Dickel Ave. Spiker has offered $500 and intends to use the lot as a side-yard extension with possibly a fence, garden and fruit trees. Police, fire and garbage discounts at city council

Legislation to increase the discount for prepayment of police and fire fees in the city of Parkersburg and apply a discount for prepayment of garbage fees is on final reading Tuesday before Parkersburg City Council. A proposed ordinance would increase the discounts from 1.5% to 5% when payment is made in full for the 12-month period starting on July 1 and paid by July 20 for the police and fire fees.
