Parkersburg man gets 14 years on federal drug charges

CHARLESTON – A Parkersburg man on Monday was sentenced to 14 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine by a U.S. District Court judge in West Virginia. The sentence given to Kevin Wayne Gardner, 42, is to be followed by five years of supervised release, according to U.S. Attorney Moore Capito. Gardner was sentenced on Monday and Judge Thomas E. Judge reviewing motions for possible new trial in Cupp case

PARKERSBURG – A Wood County Circuit Court judge is reviewing a motion for a new trial in a case where a woman was originally found guilty of second-degree murder, but a juror was believed to have personal connections to people involved in the case after the verdict was rendered. Judge Robert Waters is reviewing the motion as well as the state’s response in the case of Barbara Cupp. A representative of his office said Tuesday the judge has not made a ruling yet and the matter had not been set for a hearing. U.S. attorney reaches $4.17M civil settlement, compliance agreement with WVU Health System over controlled substance violations

MORGANTOWN — The U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Northern and Southern districts of West Virginia announced Monday that West Virginia United Health System, doing business as West Virginia University Health System, has agreed to pay $4,177,139 and enter a memorandum of agreement to resolve civil allegations that it violated provisions of the Controlled Substances Act across various registered facilities over a seven-year span.
