MARIETTA — A Waterford man was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred Thursday night at Malta near the Muskingum River, according to the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The patrol was notified at 10:17 a.m. Saturday of a body in the Muskingum River near North Riverview Road in Malta in Morgan County, the patrol said. The body was identified as Kendrick D. Schwendeman, 31, Waterford, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said.

The investigation found a crash scene on North Riverview Road about a half mile south of Upper Douda Road where a dive team confirmed the crash involved Schwendeman’s vehicle, the patrol said.

Schwendeman was operating a 1999 Ford F-350 south on North Riverview Road when it veered off the left side of the road, struck a tree and overturned into the Muskingum River, the patrol, which requested assistance with the crash investigation, said. The accident occurred Thursday between 10:30 p.m. and midnight and remains under investigation, the patrol said.

Agencies responding in addition to the Highway Patrol were the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Washington-Morgan County Coroner’s Office, Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department Dive Team and Westfall Towing.
