School briefly placed in lockout while possible online threat investigated

PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg High School was placed under a lockout Tuesday morning.

Wood County Schools representative Michael Erb said the school went into a lockout at around 9:30 a.m. in response to a possible online threat.

The lockout was where only authorized personnel, school employees and police had access to the building and no visitors were admitted. Students remained in their classrooms until the lockout was lifted.

Police Chief Matthew Board said there was no direct threat to the school or a specific student at the school. A local student was mentioned in the situation and involved individuals outside of the area.

”The situation was vetted and investigated,” Board said.

The lockout was done out of an abundance of caution until the circumstances were investigated and everyone’s safety insured, Board said.

Board said they take the situation seriously, regardless if it initially appears serious or not, and they investigate the matter until it is mitigated. Everything is taken as credible and police investigate the matter to insure everyone remains safe at the school and throughout the community

The lockout was lifted at 10:20 a.m. and operations had returned to normal.

Starting at $2.99/week.
