Marietta superintendent hired by Athens County school district

Will Hampton

Alexander Local School District Board of Education met Wednesday in Athens County to employ current Marietta City Schools Superintendent Will Hampton as the new superintendent for Alexander LSD.

The board unanimously voted to approve employing Hampton as superintendent of schools for a five-year term effective August 1, 2022, and also unanimously approved employing Hampton as a consultant for Revised Code effective May 12, 2022.

Hampton has been working with the Marietta City School District for the past 17 years. He said he has been employed as superintendent for the last seven years, principal at Marietta Middle School for the seven years before that and assistant principal at Marietta High School before that.

During an interview before the meeting, Hampton said although the position has not been finalized, he is looking forward to the opportunity at hand.

“I’m hopeful that they (Marietta) are supportive of my nomination,” he said. “I look forward to working with the people at Alexander.”

Hampton said Alexander LSD has what they were looking for in Marietta. He said it is a smaller district with a single campus facility from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

“It was an intriguing option,” he said.

Hampton said he has watched all of his children graduate from Marietta and that his time to move on has come.

“I am very appreciative of my time in Marietta,” he said.

Hampton said he will be working with the Marietta board to do the best he can to help them prepare for his departure.

“It’s very important that I set Marietta up for success and I’m optimistic for what lies ahead,” he said.

The Marietta City Schools Board of Education has a special meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. today.
