Jack (Hugh) Flesher
Flesher
Jack (Hugh) Flesher, 94, of Murphytown, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on July 2, 2026, with his beloved wife of nearly 69 years, Jo, and his daughter, Lynn, by his side.
Born on January 20, 1932, Jack lived a life rooted in faith, hard work, and love for his family. Although he accomplished much throughout his 94 years, he would most want to be remembered as a devoted husband, father, Pappaw, and friend.
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an underwater welder. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to working at Marbon, later known as BorgWarner. He also shared his knowledge and love of welding with generations of students through the evening adult education program at Parkersburg High School and at Parkersburg Community College, now West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
Jack was baptized on June 10, 1945, and was a faithful member of Murphytown Baptist Church for 81 years. Throughout those years, he served in many roles, including as the church’s longest-serving deacon for 30 years. Whether teaching in the classroom or leading by example, his love for God’s Word and his faith were evident in the way he lived each day.
Of all the stories Jack ever told, his grandchildren’s favorites were the ones he created just for them. He had a remarkable imagination and could turn the simplest moment into an unforgettable adventure. The stories he created filled their childhoods with laughter, wonder, and love, and those memories will be cherished for the rest of their lives. Jack also loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his brother, son, and nephew. Whether casting a line or enjoying time with his family, he found joy in life’s simplest blessings.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Jo; his son, Stu (Gina); his daughter, Lynn (Larry); his grandchildren, Tyler and Caitlyn; and his great-grandchildren, Corynne and Vivienne. He is also survived by his niece, Stephanie, and his nephew, Mike (Brenda), who were like children to him and held a special place in his heart, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Andrew and Mary Lee Drain Flesher; his sister, Kathleen Nielsen; his brother, Bob Flesher; his sister-in-law, Judy; and his nephew-in-law, Rick Detrio.
Jack’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched – as a husband, father, Pappaw, teacher, veteran, mentor, and faithful servant of God. He will be remembered for the lessons he taught, the stories he shared, and the love he gave. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is home with the Lord he faithfully served throughout his life.
