Positive COVID-19 case reported at Kenna Elementary School
KENNA — One positive COVID-19 case was reported at Kenna Elementary School as reported by the Jackson County Health Department.
According to a press release from Jackson County Schools, all individuals who were in contact with the positive case have been notified and are in quarantine.
On the Jackson County Schools Facebook post regarding the positive case, Superintendent Blaine Hess said the individual does not ride a bus and the situation does not require an entire class to quarantine.
“Jackson County Schools will continue to take appropriate actions, working in collaboration with the Jackson County Health Department, to protect the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” the release said.
The West Virginia Department of Health of Human Resources reported Jackson as a level gold county as of Wednesday.
Gold represents 10 to 14.9 cases per 100,000 residents and is considered elevated community transmission, according to the West Virginia Department of Education.
Per the WV DOE guidelines, gold counties should limit exposure of core groups and large assemblies or gatherings should not be permitted.
Kids in grades three through 12 should wear face coverings at all times
For extracurricular activities and sports, the DOE says only parents or guardians accompany their children to their events and schools should only compete with other gold counties.
“To keep our schools open to our children, it will take our entire community following established COVID-19 protocols including hand washing, use of hand sanitizer, use of face coverings, and practicing social distancing. We appreciate your on-going support and commitment to the health and well-being of the Jackson County Schools Community, ” the release said.
