Downtown PKB starts shopping incentive program
PARKERSBURG — Folks spending money in downtown Parkersburg now have a chance to make a little money at the same time.
Downtown PKB this week introduced #ShopPKB, a campaign through which people can earn a $25 gift card if they spend at least $150 over three purchases at participating businesses in a quarter. Shoppers are asked to mail copies of their receipts from restaurants, hotels, retail shops and other participating businesses to the Downtown PKB office. The first 25 received will get a VISA gift card.
“It won’t take very long to collect $150 in receipts,” said Wendy Shriver, executive director of Downtown PKB.
The program is sponsored for the first year by a grant through Truist, formerly BB&T.
Plans for the incentive were in the works before the COVID-19 pandemic, Shriver said. Other Main Street organizations have implemented similar programs, she said.
“With all that has happened over the past two months, we wanted to do something to help support our downtown,” Shriver said.
With many activities canceled, the organization had more time to devote to getting the program off the ground, she said.
Patricia Ferrebee, co-owner of Market Street Yarn and Crafts said she’s not sure if the incentive program will draw more than her regular customers, but she can see those folks deciding to grab a bite to eat while they’re out as a result.
“I think it’s a great idea,” she said.
With state guidelines allowing only three people in the business at a time, Ferrebee’s shop is open by appointment only.
Receipts are due to Downtown PKB by the 15th day of the months April, July, October and January following the end of each quarter. Only receipts from that quarter are eligible.
Winners will be notified and can pick up their gift cards at Truist.
