ELLENBORO — The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a destruction of property that took place at Ritchie County Recycling Center on Dec. 28.
Surveillance cameras show a truck was parked in front of the building. As the truck was turning around on Route 16, the back part of its trailer caught the chain link fence, ripping away a section of the chain link panel, Cpl. Barnes of the sheriff’s department said.
The recycling center was closed for the weekend at the time of the incident. The sheriff’s department was not made aware until Monday, Dec. 30 when employees from the recycling center returned to work, Barnes said.
The truck had no markings; a gooseneck-style trailer was attached and it was hauling a few items. Surveillance was not able to detect where the truck was from.
“(We) can’t see any registration on the actual surveillance pictures,” Barnes said. “We checked the local restaurant next door to see if their surveillance caught anything but theirs had a glitch so their cameras outside aren’t working.”

An estimation for the repairs has not been reported, Barnes said.
“If they have insurance, which I believe they do, they would request a report and insurance would probably (pay) but hopefully we find out who did it,” Barnes said.
The department took to Facebook for help identifying the vehicle, but so far to no avail.
“I’m assuming they know they did it but that I don’t know for sure,” Barnes said.
