VIENNA — The student leadership council at Neale Elementary School decided December would be the perfect time for their community service project.

The leadership council, which is under the direction of school counselor Andrea Moore, consists of two students from each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class. The leaders decided on Pennies for Pets, with proceeds being donated to the Humane Society of Parkersburg.

The leaders chose this project because they love animals, they know how much the Humane Society does for the community, and they wanted to give back, the school said. The students at Neale raised $300 to donate to the HSOP.

HSOP volunteer coordinator Cindy Buckingham met with the students to be presented with the check, and explained how many animals would be helped from these donations.

Starting at $2.99/week.
