Parkersburg Moose Lodge to host blood drive Aug. 3

PARKERSBURG - Parkersburg Moose Lodge #1118 is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at 1 Moose Lane, Parkersburg (behind Napoli’s off Dupont Road in south Parkersburg). Twenty of 45 available time slots are full, but organizers are looking to fill the remaining slots. Parts of 19th Street, Ohio Avenue to close Thursday

PARKERSBURG – Portions of two streets will be closed Thursday as the Parkersburg Utility Board performs pavement restoration following a fire hydrant replacement and leak repair. Beginning at 6 a.m., 19th Street will be closed from Murdoch to Garfield Avenue and Ohio Avenue will be closed from 19th to 20th Street, according to a release from the PUB. The closures are expected to continue throughout the day until the work is completed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

Measles case confirmed in unvaccinated Barbour County resident

BARBOUR COUNTY - A measles case was confirmed in an unvaccinated Barbour County resident Tuesday, according to a release from the West Virginia Department of Health. Information provided by State Health Officer Mark McDaniel said officials are working with the Barbour County Health Department on the case to identify contact tracing. The Department of Health has not identified any evidence of widespread community exposure. DJ music night planned at Root Beer Shack

PARKERSBURG – A free DJ music night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Root Beer Shack, 1420 Staunton Ave. The event is a collaboration among Parkersburg Councilwoman Wendy Tuck, Root Beer Shack owner Sarah Stalnaker and DJ Dodge Gaskill. Gaskill, a retired chef who also works as a photographer and artist, will play rock, country and pop music from the 1950s through the 2000s. World Embroidery Day to be observed in Parkersburg

World Embroidery Day will be observed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Bolts and Quarters Quilt Shop in Parkersburg. The exhibit and event are free and participants are encouraged to bring a project and sit and sew with other stitchers. The entries for the exhibits are not judged and can be entered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
