DJ music night planned at Root Beer Shack

By Gwen Sour 1 min read

PARKERSBURG - A free DJ music night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Root Beer Shack, 1420 Staunton Ave.

The event is a collaboration among Parkersburg Councilwoman Wendy Tuck, Root Beer Shack owner Sarah Stalnaker and DJ Dodge Gaskill. Gaskill, a retired chef who also works as a photographer and artist, will play rock, country and pop music from the 1950s through the 2000s.

Tuck said she met Gaskill about two years ago while holding constituent office hours at the restaurant. She holds office hours there from 2:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday to give residents an opportunity to ask questions, discuss concerns or seek assistance, particularly if they cannot attend evening City Council meetings.

Tuck said organizers wanted to provide residents with an opportunity to relax following a stressful summer that has included the recent warehouse fire on Camden Avenue and the city's transition to a new trash collection service.

"We wanted to have a time to relax, lighten up a little and enjoy some of our favorite tunes," Tuck said.

Admission and music are free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

Starting at /week.
