VIENNA — An expert in belly dance and its instruction will present two workshops on Sunday in Vienna.

Sharp Shimmy and the Whole She-Bang and Combos Opulent will be presented by Joanna Abel of Pittsburgh from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1-2:30 p.m., respectively, at Fitness with Phyllis, 1500 Grand Central Ave.

Cost is $40 for one session and $70 for both. Payment can be made through Venmo @josie-rabatin. The workshops are sponsored by the Heart & Veil Belly Dance Troupe.

Abel discovered her passion for belly dance in 2005 and has performed and held dance workshops across the country. She is the founder and owner of the 3rd Street Belly Dance Studio in Pittsburgh and has self-produced the Enchanted Creature Ball with performances with fantasy creature-themed dances and live music.

Abel also produced the show Enchanted Tarot that featured the Enchanted Creature Ball with Zoe Jakes’ House of Tarot and she is a member of the professional dance ensemble, Starry Moon Dance Company, since 2019.

“That is why we are so excited for her to be coming here,” Heart & Veil Co-Leader Deborah Trippett said. “We know what is in store for us.”

Experience is not required for the workshops, Trippett said.

“Beginners and the curious are welcome and encouraged to attend,” she said. “This is an opportunity for people in the Mid-Ohio Valley to train with a professional dancer, director, producer, studio founder and choreographer with over 20 years of experience that has held workshops, produced shows, performed with the likes of the Zoe Jakes and toured with Beats Antique’s 2024 and 2025 East Coast tours.”
