PARKERSBURG — Organizers of the Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon are looking for a few more volunteers to help stage the Aug. 16 race through the streets of Parkersburg.
The race passes through neighborhoods in central Parkersburg as well as on the south side. Volunteers are needed at intersections to help direct traffic away from the runners and walkers.
“Volunteers play a key part in staging the event. Their dedication to this community event is inspirational; we just need a few more groups or individuals to make sure we have everything covered,” said race director Art Smith.
Volunteers are stationed at around 70 intersections from the start of the race until the last participant passes their point.
“It’s a great opportunity for groups or individuals to show their community spirit by lending a hand for a few hours,” added Smith.
Interested groups or individuals can contact coordinator Sarah Watson at 304-485-1891, ext. 459, or by email at halfmarathon@newsandsentinel.com.
