PARKERSBURG — With the help of West Virginia University basketball alum Gabe Osabuohien, Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg will host a luau-themed open house and back-to-school giveaway at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15.

School supplies will be provided by the third annual Gabe’s Back-to-School giveaway, a week-long, multi-city initiative providing school supplies across the state.

“This isn’t just about giving backpacks,” Osabuohien said. “It’s about showing up for our kids, building community, and giving them the tools and confidence they need to succeed.”

With the help of sponsors, mayors, businesses and local organizations, Osabuohien will stop at six locations across the state to offer backpacks, supplies and games. The event continues to grow and has impacted thousands of students across the region.

“We’re so excited that our Mary Street Clubhouse was selected for Gabe’s Back-to-School giveaway. It’s so special that we can show the community and Gabe’s team the positive impact of Clubs by joining us in hosting our open house event,” Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg CEO Lynn Reins said. “What makes it even sweeter is that local kids will receive all kinds of goodies and supplies they need to have a successful school year. Thank you to everyone who sponsored or donated; we truly appreciate your support.”

During the event, guests will be transported to a Hawaii setting where they can enjoy food, play games, win prizes and build excitement for the school year, and membership and transportation will be confirmed.

Non-members are asked to contribute $5 for food. Payment can be made at the door with cash or card.

“Our open house events are a fantastic opportunity for our Club kids and families to spend time together. We love to see our kids’ excitement when they introduce Club friends to their family members and loved ones,” Reins said. “Thank you to our leadership staff for their hard work planning this event. It’s going to be a fun night, and we’re excited to say ‘aloha’ to all our friends in the community.”
