WALKER — Boy Scouts converged on Camp Kootaga this weekend for the annual Kootaga District Spring Camporee.
The event was organized by Shaun Harris, Butch Hawkins and members of Troop 203. Many volunteers donated their time to the weekend event.
Scouting patrols were evaluated in timed skill tests at various stations, including the atomic bomb (moving water), the big clove hitch, the wall, knots, obstacle course, first aid, fire building, tents, log lift and field crossing. Saturday’s rain also evaluated Scouts’ ability to adapt to conditions, particularly when it came to starting a fire and bringing water to a boil.
Troop 12 from Parkersburg amassed the most points and won this year’s skills test. Other units taking part were Troop 175 from Middlebourne, Troop 203 from Marietta, Troop 20 from Vienna and Troop 439 from Ravenswood.
The Fall Camporee dates have been set for Oct. 17-19 at Camp Kootaga.
