PARKERSBURG — A local artist prepared for several months for the Holiday Art Exhibit for WesBanco Bank.

Penny Channell is the December and January Artist of the Month and is exhibiting all new art depicting the yuletide.

“Art to me is my therapy and a very healthy outlet,” Channell said.

The Channell art exhibit will be on display at WesBanco Bank, 415 Market St., in December and January during regular business hours from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.

Channell, who works in oils and acrylics, tries to paint every day, which takes discipline to paint on a regular basis.

“I give God the glory for my desire to paint,” she said.

Among pieces in her holiday exhibit are a winter peacock, cardinals in a snowy moonlight setting and The Winter Dance.

Channell does consignment painting and has found the subject matter most people want are the animals they love or something sentimental to the family, such as the homestead or farm.

The painting process she has adopted is layering the acrylic colors to get the effect she wants. She loves all colors, styles and subjects and always tries to have interesting subject matter or tell a story with each painting.

“People love art that touches their heart, something that speaks to them. I have sold a lot of paintings and each piece usually speaks to that person,” Channell said.

She has been blessed with a strong family support system that allows her to do her painting.

The venues of her art included the Parkersburg Art Center, Artsbridge and Grand Central Mall. She did her first solo art exhibit at WesBanco several years ago.

Starting at $2.99/week.
