PARKERSBURG — Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Mid-Ohio Valley will host its third mystery dinner on Oct. 14.

The nonprofit has been offering financial counseling and education for 51 years.

Shelene Shrewsbury, executive director of CCCS of the MOV, said the nonprofit has a mission dedicated to helping the community achieve financial independence and does so through its various services and programs. CCCS provides budgeting assistance, debt management plans and financial education to the community. Shrewsbury said they won’t turn down anyone who needs the services they provide.

“This fundraiser helps offset those needs so that we don’t have to turn anyone away when they need some professional guidance from us,” she said. “We’re a trusted resource for our community and we want to make sure we’re around for another 50 plus years to be able to provide the very vital services that we do provide.”

“The Last Dance of Dr. Disco” is an audience participation show performed by the Actors Guild of Parkersburg. It will take place at the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center at 1500 Grand Central Ave., Vienna. Attendees will feel like they have been transported to the 70s when entering the Grand Pointe, which will be transformed into Club 182. Dressing up is encouraged.

“We’re going to transform Grand Pointe in Vienna into Club 182, so when people walk into this event it’s going to be lit from corner to corner with fun lighting and we’ll have a dance floor,” she said.

Shrewsbury said Paragon Productions has donated its time and supplies to the event in order to have music and improved sound equipment this year.

The event will include a new and improved pasta buffet dinner, a secret dessert offering, a cash bar, a show, a silent auction and a fun takeaway as well. The silent auction will include an experience at Canaan Valley, a “really cool” race bike helmet from Lemon and Barrett’s Powersports, gift baskets and gift certificates to community businesses like Wine Down on Market, among other items.

General admission begins at 6 p.m., while V.I.P. admission begins at 5 p.m. V.I.P.’s get into the event an hour earlier and get to spend more time mingling with the actors. There will also be appetizers and an early look at the silent auction. Dinner will be served and the show will start soon after, around 6:30 p.m.

General admission costs $65 per person and $110 for couples, while V.I.P. tickets cost $75 per person and $125 for couples. Tables of 10 can also be purchased for reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased at https://cccsmystery.yapsody.com/ or by calling 304-485-3141.

“We’re really excited to bring this event again,” she said. “We want there to be fun options for the Mid-Ohio Valley — something unique, something different to provide as far as entertainment.”

Shrewsbury said community events are important, especially after being stuck inside during the pandemic.

“It was really tough on us as a community and we’re hoping that this will be successful because it’ll bring people out and together having fun,” she said. “Life is so short and we just want people to enjoy every minute of it, and we’re hoping this is something they’ll remember for years to come.”
