Marietta College to host economist Elaine Buckberg for Milton Friedman Lecture

MARIETTA — A senior fellow at the Salata Institute for Climate Sustainability at Harvard University will be the keynote speaker at the 40th annual Milton Friedman Lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in the Alma McDonough Auditorium at Marietta College.

Elaine Buckberg will lecture on “What Do EVs Mean for the Economy.”

She previously was the chief economist of General Motors, providing economic analysis and advice on competitive and policy issues, including electric vehicle adoption. She also held senior roles at the Brattle Group, the U.S. Treasury Department, NERA Economic Consulting and Morgan Stanley.

Buckberg has a doctorate in economics from MIT and a bachelor’s from Yale.

The Milton Friedman Lecture Series brings renowned speakers to Marietta College each year to discuss economic issues and challenges. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Buckberg also will also speak at the luncheon of the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley from noon to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Parkersburg Country Club.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan, non-political educational organization that was formed in 1982 between the Marietta College Business and Economics Department and businesses, civic and educational leaders.

The Roundtable Speaker series is open to its members and their guests. Membership is open to all interested individuals at $35 a year.
