MINERAL WELLS — The Wood County 4-H Camp Annual Ox Roast fundraiser will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the 4-H Camp on Butcher Bend Road.
The roast will wrap up the annual National 4-H Week activities locally.
The meal includes pit roast beef, potato, green beans, cole slaw, a roll, dessert and a drink. Meals are $15 each.
Organizers are planning to roast 1,500 pounds of meat, which is around 200 roasts.
The beef was raised by 4-H and FFA members and was purchased at the youth livestock sale and donated to the 4-H camp for the Ox Roast Fundraiser. Donors included Sam Baker, Boso Equipment, Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, WVU Medicine, Kent Welding and Dr. Chris Miller.

All proceeds support the 4-H campground.
“The 4-H camp is managed by volunteers from 4-H, Farm Bureau, and CEOS and they provide opportunities for not only these organizations but many others in our community to have a camp facility for family, community, and youth events,” said Jodi L. Smith, Wood County 4-H Extension Agent. “It is thanks to donors, supporters, and volunteers that we can keep the camp operational for more than 84 years.”
Volunteers and teen leaders will be at the event to answer questions and talk to anyone interested in joining 4-H.
“The 4-H program provides so many opportunities for young people to learn and grow in their communities through leadership, service to others, friendships, skill development, and more,” Smith said. “I’ve witnessed so many young people growing up in the 4-H program and continuing their involvement beyond membership and becoming volunteers and mentors to the next generation.”
