Fallon, Walker qualify for Jr. Match Play
CHARLESTON – In the first of two qualifiers for the West Virginia Junior Match Play Championship, a total of nine slots were filled – including two from a pair of local golfers.
At Edgewood Country Club, Parkersburg South senior Cam Fallon shot a 1-over par 72 and Wirt County middle school student Jude Walker followed in a tie for fifth place at 2-over 73 to qualify for the Junior Match Play Championship scheduled for May 9-10 at Parkersburg Country Club.
Rounding out the list of qualifiers from Edgewood CC were McCartney Hinkle from Princeton, who earned medalist honors at 6-under 65, along with Chapmanville’s Justus Mann (69), Hurricane’s Isaac Hayes (70), Hurricane’s Carson O’Dell (73) and South Charleston’s Ben Carew (73).
On the girls side, two slots were solidified by Charleston’s Alexis Green (87) and South Charleston’s Jadyn Snodgrass (95).
The second qualifier is scheduled for Sunday at Green Hills Country Club in Fairmont.
Pairings set for MSAC Softball Tourney
PARKERSBURG – Placement games and tournament games for Mountain State Athletic Conference softball will begin on Wednesday at Little Creek Park in South Charleston, on Fields 1 and 2.
At noon, No. 12 South Charleston plays No. 11 Capital and No. 9 Huntington plays Woodrow Wilson.
At 2 p.m., No. 8 Parkersburg meets No. 8 St. Albans, and No. 6 Riverside meets No. 5 Spring Valley.
The semifinal games at 4 p.m. pit No. 2 Parkersburg South against No. 3 Hurricane, and No. 1 Cabell Midland against No. 4 George Washington.
The championship game is set for a 6 p.m. start.
A three-way tie resulted between seeds 3-5 and settled by the fourth tiebreaker – total number of runs allowed in MSAC games.
