Hoops roundup: Vikings make 17 treys in victory

SUMMERSVILLE — One night after making 14 3-pointers in a win over Lincoln County, Ripley upped the ante Saturday night by burying 17 treys in an 81-57 win over Nicholas County.

The Vikings (8-2) shot 50% from beyond the arc with Brady McVay (four 3s, 14 points), Blake Justice (three 3s, 16 points), Jackson Moore (three 3s, 13 points) and Matthew Stellato (three 3s, 12 points) leading the way.

Kyler Doss contributed eight assists, six rebounds and five steals for Ripley, which faces a big test on Tuesday night when it visits Nitro.

The Grizzlies received a game-high 20 points from Brady Lilly plus 14 from Isaac Miner.

Warren 61, Tri-Valley 51

DRESDEN — Warren picked up a huge win over a quality opponent, defeating Tri-Valley 61-51 Saturday.

The Warriors (6-5) rallied from a 17-9 deficit after one. Tri-Valley’s lead was down to 30-27 by halftime and Warren was within two, 43-41, going into the fourth.

The final eight minutes were all Warriors as they outscored the Scotties 20-8 in the fourth.

Blake Grimes led WHS with 15 points. Hudson Elzey made a pair of 3-pointers and was 6 for 6 at the foul line to add 12 points, while Liam Grosselin and Jackson Perdue tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Tri-Valley (8-5) received a game-high 17 points from Ryan LaMonica. Colten Rollison added 13 points while Troy Patterson and Oliver Baker netted nine apiece.

The Warriors have won four games in a row and carry a ton of momentum into Monday’s rivalry showdown at Marietta.

GIRLS

Ritchie County 51, Tolsia 44

FORT GAY — Ritchie County made a three-hour trip to Tolsia High School on Saturday afternoon and returned home with a 51-44 victory.

Elsa Law went 12 for 16 at the free-throw line and finished with 26 points, eight rebounds and eight steals for the visiting Rebels, who improved to 7-2 and play host to Doddridge County on Tuesday.

Emily Bush added nine points, eight boards, four assists and four steals for RCHS while Abbigayl Cox chipped in eight points and five steals. Cheslie Jeffrey contributed eight boards and four steals for Ritchie, which led 13-8 after one, 27-18 at halftime and 38-33 going into the fourth.

Tolsia (4-7) was led by Olivia Kelly’s 17 points. Carly Johnson and Jacey Crum pitched in eight points apiece for the host Rebels.

Fairland 82, Warren 39

PROCTORVILLE, Ohio — Warren ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday when it took on Fairland.

The juggernaut Dragons ran away with an 82-39 victory to improve to 9-2.

Warren, playing without team leader Aubrey Pepper, fell behind 27-13 after one. The Warriors (7-4) kept fighting in the second and cut the deficit to 13, 37-24, by halftime, but FHS outscored the visitors 32-8 in the third to put the game out of reach.

Bailey Russell, Addison Godby and Addyson Cornell combined for 52 points — Russell scored a game-high 18 while Godby and Cornell added 17 apiece. Rylee Russell chipped in 11 while Lola Donahue contributed eight.

Juliana Huffman led the Warriors with nine points while Josie Venham and Jayda Murray pitched in seven each.

Warren will look to snap a two-game skid on Tuesday when it welcomes rival Marietta. The Warriors beat the Tigers 34-26 earlier this season.
