KIDWELL – Top-ranked Class A Wirt County got the job done on Saturday at Tyler Consolidated as the Tigers of head coach Katie Frazier brought the Little Kanawha Conference volleyball championship back to Elizabeth.

The Tigers opened the day with a 25-20 and 25-8 victory versus Buffalo, which allowed the orange and black to advance to the championship triangular.

Wirt County’s first task was squaring off against third-ranked Class AA Poca, but the Dots came up short 25-18 and 25-12.

Needing one more win to lock up the crown, the Tigers leaned on senior Addie Stephens to the tune of a match-high 33 kills en route to a 25-15, 23-25 and 25-15 victory versus the host Silver Knights, who were ranked ninth in double-A.

Breigyn Dawson, who had three aces against the Bison, put up 40 assists versus the Silver Knights as Simone Hall chipped in eight kills, which matched her total against the Dots. She had seven against Buffalo.

Tiger Jasmine Williams finished the day with five aces, registering two apiece against the Bison and Silver Knights, while teammate Makayla Moore had a combined 16 digs to lead a defense that received a total of a dozen digs from Katherine Lemley.

Wirt County, which got a total of eight downed spikes from Izzy Speece, also received an ace in each match from Mya Hatcher. Stephens finished with 10 kills against Buffalo and 16 versus the Dots. Brook Mills chipped in two downed spikes in the opening match.
