GLENVILLE STATE 42, CONCORD 30
SUMMERSVILLE — Jeremiah King got things started and Anthony Garrett took it from there as Glenville State bested Concord 42-30 Saturday for its third straight win and fourth in its last five tries.
King, who finished with 142 yards on 23 carries, scored on runs of 15 and 2 yards in the first five minutes of the game as the Pioneers (4-3, 3-1 Mountain East Conference) built an early 14-0 cushion.
Concord (2-5, 1-3 MEC) answered when Tyler Mizzell, who threw for 230 yards and ran for 128 more, hit Damari Heller on a 12-yard touchdown pass to cut the Mountain Lions’ deficit in half.
From there, Glenville was able to stay one step ahead of Concord. Garrett finished 15 for 27 passing for 204 yards and four TDs — two to Koraun Perdue and one apiece to Tariq Miller and Kordell Lewis.
The Mountain Lions answered every score, getting a 28-yard field goal from Kenyon Bowyer, a 63-yard TD run from Mizzell and a pair of TD connections from Mizzell to Que Moore (44 and 13 yards), but couldn’t overcome the early 14-point hole they dug themselves.
