PARKERSBURG — Coming off a key victory against cross-town rival Parkersburg South, the Parkersburg Big Reds entered Friday night’s game at an even 2-2 record with the sweet taste of victory still lingering in the air.
Aided by a statement game from Parkersburg quarterback Alex Greer, the Big Red offense exploded with a staggering total of 409 yards compared to the Warriors’ 43, a testament to the constantly evolving offensive identity that the Big Reds have experimented with all season.
“I thought we executed pretty well offensively,” said Parkersburg head coach Matt Kimes. “We’ve been trying some new things in the passing game that we can hang our hat on a little bit.”
After 12 minutes of a back-and-forth effort from both teams to start the game, the Big Reds would earn their first of seven touchdowns on the day off an explosive 52-yard run by Greer, a hint of the merciless domination that was yet to follow.
Soon after a key punt block by Parkersburg’s Ethan Jones, the Big Reds would be gifted excellent field position within the Warriors’ red zone, eventually resulting in a 13-yard Sylas Cheuvront touchdown run to move the score to 12-0.

Riverside would attempt to find momentum on their next drive, but a relentless effort by the Big Red defense would force a punt that would soon result in a second touchdown for Cheuvront, moving the score to 19-0 and setting the tone for what the Warriors would fall victim to for the next three quarters.
“Momentum is an amazing but real thing,” said Kimes. “We’ve got to really try to capitalize on gaining momentum going forward.”
After an ugly Riverside fumble that resulted in a 15-yard loss, the Warriors would fumble yet again not even two plays later, the first two fumbles of 5 on the day, all by Riverside quarterback Tavion Woods.
Greer would fire a gorgeous 14-yard touchdown pass to receiver Tytan Parsons off a play action design that would increase the Big Red’s lead to 25, followed by a last second field goal by Cole Sisk to make the score 28-0 at halftime.
The Big Reds would capitalize off their first half success in the third quarter with another beautiful Greer touchdown pass to receiver Brady Thorn, increasing the lead to 34 and adding on to Greer’s dominant performance.
The Big Reds would score twice in the fourth quarter off a Cheuvront 3-yard run and a late game 2-yard run by Austin Jones, solidifying victory and sending a message to their future opponents.
“There are a lot of good teams coming up on our schedule, so we’ve got to use this momentum to hopefully get better next week,” said Kimes.
The Big Reds will look to extend their winning streak to four next Friday when they face George Washington, while the Warriors will attempt to gather themselves to face Spring Valley next Friday.
