South blanks PHS, 8-0, for sectional title

PARKERSBURG — Alexi Dellinger pitched to contact Tuesday evening at Godbey Fields to help lead Parkersburg South to the Class AAAA, Region IV, Section 2 championship.
Dellinger pitched a five-inning, complete-game shutout as the Patriots bested rival Parkersburg 8-0. South’s hurler did not strike out a batter and issued just one walk.
Scoreless after one, South (18-7) plated two in the second, five in the third and one more in the fourth.
Anniston Shelton doubled, singled and scored two runs while Alison Marcum, doubled, singled, scored two runs and drove in three more. Brylee Hatcher was 2 for 3 with two runs scored while Shyanne Hays, Kailey Lockhart and Payton Mackey all drove in a run.
PHS finished the season with a 6-14 record. Kendall Kimes and Camella Cooper both singled for the Big Reds’ only two hits.
Cooper took the mound loss, pitching four innings with two walks and no strikeouts.
South will take on Cabell Midland in the regionals next week. The Patriots will host game one of the best-of-three series at 6 p.m. Monday.
