Letter to the Editor: Only one way

While it was somewhat refreshing to hear Donald Trump mention faith the other day in regard to him wanting to go to heaven, it was disturbing to find out he thinks one can gain heaven by “convincing” God that he has done enough good to warrant it.
To be sure, we cannot do enough good to get to Heaven, because as the Bible says, (“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:6 KJV, meaning no matter what we do, it is not enough to please God in regard to salvation. “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:10 KJV. But, why is it not enough to try to please God? Well, it is because it has already been done by Jesus. It is not us trying to do good, but accepting the good that Jesus did for all of us.
In fact, it is not us trying to please God, but rather it is us accepting what God, through His son the Lord Jesus Christ, did on the cross for all people. To “get to heaven” all we have to do is admit we are a sinner, recognize that we need a savior, and believe the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and that those events really happened and accept Jesus as our savior. That is simple. It is the world, and Satan, who like to make it difficult.
My desire is that someone close to the president will enlighten him of the fact that his belief system is wrong and will lead him to Hell, a real place, and admittedly a destination he does not desire. The Speaker of the House knows the truth. Pray that he will get the chance to talk to the president about salvation.
Salvation is simply by faith in Jesus and nothing else. Christ alone. There are no other Gods except the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob and there is no one else who can save us. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 KJV.
Today is the day of salvation. Have you made the correct decision today?
