* Two local education powerhouses are teaming up to provide more options for students. Washington State College of Ohio students will now be able to get a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity by taking classes through West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Innovation and Technology Center. “We know what this will bring to this community,” said WVUP President Torie Jackson. “It brings a lot of excitement, a lot of innovation and a lot of opportunities for new partnerships. We are very thankful for Washington State College of Ohio and what that partnership can mean for students.” Now, students can get their Associate of Applied Science in cybersecurity at WSCO and transfer to WVUP to finish a Bachelor of Applied Technology in cybersecurity and network administration. That’s an important option for those looking to get a good education that will prepare them to fill good jobs, without accruing crippling student loan debt. “Washington State is committed to good partnerships,” said WSCO President Sarah Parker. “This is an extension of what we can provide our students through great partnerships with really awesome educational organizations here in the Mid-Ohio Valley. It keeps our workforce strong and that is what we are committed to.” Congratulations, and thank you, to those who made it happen.

* Williamstown Middle/High School students knocked it out of the park with their submissions to the Wood County “I Voted!” sticker contest. Winners in the contest hosted through the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office were: First place – Isabella McCloy of Williamstown Middle/High School; second place – Payton Binger of Williamstown Middle/High School; and third place – Alayna Carpenter of Williamstown Middle/High School. “It gets the kids starting to think about a time when they will be able to register to vote,” said Wood County Clerk Joe Gonzales. “When they become age eligible, they are interested and know a little bit about the voting process and encourage people to get out and vote and select their candidates.” Congratulations to our local young people, who did such an excellent job turning that interest into effective works of art.
